                                                               Artist Statement

My work is loosely based on my father’s illness. In my drawings, I use repetitive patterns and organic forms resembling cells and veins. The nature of the mark making speaks to our needs for control, even when dealing with disease and illness.  Recent works consist of a series, which explore a variety of materials such as, medical gauze, rubber, and tubing similar to those used in intravenous therapy. Also present in the works are various canvas colored textiles which have been hand dyed with organic pigments, knotted, stitched, bound and wrapped. I investigate memory, loss, and hope to leave viewers feeling as though what was broken is now on the mend. I am interested in a poetic quality which finds beauty in tragedy, balance between the conscious and subconscious, and strength in the juxtaposition of subtle and strong marks.
