The act of letting the paint play is a constant movement and variation. Most importantly, it's a search for visual rhythm. I am mainly inspired by nature - how it grows, how it changes, how it functions. What feelings are evoked by different environments? Every painting is an unexpected surprise.
In 1998, I won the Grand Prize at the George Fox University Art Competition. I studied at Gage Academy of Art and showed work at Best of Gage in 2014 and 2015. In the last year I’ve had two solo shows at the Alibi Room downtown, and the Kitchen – Sous Sol Winery in Pioneer Square.
I am also an author currently developing a novel and finishing a non-fiction book on the evolution and sociological impact of religion. My memoir No End Of The Bed is available at most major online retailers. You can also read my blog at www.laurenjbarnhart.com where I expound on art, religion, books, feminism, and family.
