Art of England's July front cover is painted by Lucy Boyle, a fine art student at the Royal College of Art. There was a 'stop the press' moment when Lucy's image landed at Art of England HQ just a couple of days before going to print. We all agreed that it should be showcased on the front cover immediately.
She paints predominantly oil on linen and uses an aesthetic which relates to the Old Masters and illustration. Her work is concerned with classic genres, portraiture, landscape and will be for sale at the RCA graduate show.
Professor David Rayson, Head of Painting, who taught Lucy explains, "Lucy Boyle's work is enabled by her acute sense of observation with her paintings being built up meticulously with an affectionate attention to detail. The context she operates from is generated by current debates concerning the role of romanticism in contemporary art and the cultural history of artists' continual exploration of the city."
