Statement

Recuerdos [ray-coo-err’-dos]
Remembrance, hint given of what has passed, memento, memory, recognition.

I was born in Sanctis Spiritus, Cuba, as were my parents, and grandparents. In November 1969, my
parents packed up a single suitcase with our photos and clothes and we boarded the Freedom Flight
to Miami, Florida – I was nearing my fourth birthday. We were eventually reunited with the rest of our
family in Union City, New Jersey. Living just twenty minutes from New York City gave me access and
opportunity to explore some of the best museums and galleries.

Bombarded with advertising since an early age, my passion for photography was born. I was given my

first 35mm camera, a Pentax ME Super in high school. I loved doing street photography. After school,
would spend the rest of the afternoons developing my film and prints at the school lab. Eventually, I set
up my personal mini-darkroom in my parent’s bathroom.

In 1988, I received my B.F.A. degree in Graphic Design from Kean College, now Kean University. Since then,

I have worked for several prominent advertising agencies in New York City and New Jersey.

In 2010, I stumbled into an unexpected medium, called scanography. I work with mostly found objects.

The joy of collecting has allowed me to bring together my love for both the two and three dimensional
design. My scanner is an endless source of challenges that I find delightful. I enjoy experimenting with light,

movement, liquids, depth of field, colors and layers.

I am currently living and working in Jersey City, New Jersey as Visual Artist and Graphic Designer.
