Remembrance, hint given of what has passed, memento, memory, recognition.
I've always enjoyed telling stories through my artwork. I was nearing my 4th birthday, and quite misbehaving at that time. My mom had surprised me with a 10 cent coloring book from the corner bodega. She handed me a box of my cousin’s second-hand crayons. I was mesmerized by all the little stories that it was waiting to show me. My color scheme was a bit unusual. I colored in the sky a bright cherry red and the grass a deep chocolate brown.
Today, I continue to share stories through my own updated, version of those old coloring books. Most of my nights are spent in the digital darkroom. I start off by assembling mini, temporary constructed scenes. They are mostly found objects that are past their usefulness. By giving them a new purpose, I uncover an old memory or two waiting to break through to greet me.
