Monica Hee Eun / 18Tat (1982) born in Seoul, South Korea, brought up in Copenhagen, Denmark, currently lives in Thailand.

Movies, music, books and graphic novels are major influences on my art. Besides painting and drawing, I'm also writing, tattooing and doing photography.

I like when art gives me a hard blow to the gut. If it evokes strong basic emotions, or trigger significant thoughts within. The concept of transgressive art interests me a great deal, because it usually highlights our conventions and taboos. It can challenge our established believes and conformity.
I often reflect on urban contemporary society and what is perceived as odd or offensive yet at the same time highly titillating, maintained and visible.

If these considerations are visible in my art or not really doesn't matter. My visual language and motifs are quite straightforward, simple even. I'm fascinated by the duality and the hypocritical way of the human mind.
