Katherine Lee has been an artist her entire life. She grew up in the rural Valley of the Moon playing outside in the woods for hours, absorbing the natural setting and strengthening her imagination. An avid drawer from a young age and an observer of details, Katherine was able to put to life what she gained from nature and dedicated her gift to creating the most true to form artwork. The importance of remaining within the lines of accuality and allowing what she saw to come forward and go undiluted onto the canvas made her more precise in her work. This skill sharpened, just as the countless pencils used, and she dedicated herself to becoming a full-time artist at the age of 25. Having a passion for realism, Katherine now focuses her efforts on exacting her accuracy and making her work have a life of its own. By continuing to hone her work hour by hour, piece by piece, and with the lessons learned, Katherine jumps ahead of the curve with innovation and deep rooted passion. She also has the honor of being a featured artist in the 2014 World Wide Arts Book of International Contemporary Masters V.9.
With an eye for detail and a fondness for displaying the truth, I not only attempt maintain the visual butthe emotional presence of the subjects in my artwork. The natural world plays a large role in my life and the scope of work in my portfolio ranges from photorealistic portraits of both humans and animals to abstract representations of exotic flora. Creating from an unbiased place, it is my intention to give animals a voice through honest renderings and humans a chance to come fully alive on the canvas. In order to bring the content into full focus, I emphasize light and dark so they may act as key ingredients to creating a lifelike look and feel to the work. I have found that, upon completion, many of my pieces have acted as mirrors to reflect what truths may be hidden behind the often ambiguous look staring back from the photo reference. I now go into each new work with a very open mind and use the tools I have gathered over the years to foster a safe environment for the subject to really show their true colors. Art is an alchemy and to sharpen the clarity of truth and tune the viewer into how it can evoke real emotions is my goal for today, tomorrow and for many artists of the future.
I currently live in the Bay Area in California and work in my studio at home.
