Francene Kaplan enjoys collecting inorganic objects from the desert and creating assemblage art pieces with them or combining them with low maintenance plants. She has exhibited in the Morongo Basin's Open Studio Tours and for the City of Costa Mesa is an Orange County invitational. Dr. Kaplan has recently started performing Household Percussion. She has exhibited in SoundWalk 2008 (SoundWalk.org) and has been interviewed on Huell Howser. She frequently is a guest performer with Phog Masheeen performing experimental music (Phogmasheeen.com). Writing is a new spark that puts life into all of the little notes put aside in piles. Francene Kaplan has served her community as a science and health teacher for a number of years. She seeks out the desert as a place to get grounded. She has taught psychology and organic gardening and does talks “On Being a Green Mother.” Francene is also a Land Steward for the Mojave Desert Land Trust/Joshua Tree National Park.
