Statement

My birth followed quickly upon the end of World War II. The ensuing adolescent years showed a developing interest in the art world, however. Following graduation, I was led to a tour of duty in Europe with the Air Force. Following discharge, the need to support myself and a family saw me entering the business world and a business degree with Northeastern University

As the years passed, and then in my early 60’s, I happened to take a few Bob Ross painting classes. My interest in art was re-awakened and I soon received certification as a Bob Ross instructor.

Initially, I painted exclusively with oils but found that my wife was suffering from the fumes generated by the cleaning solvent. I therefore, moved to acrylics with some modest success, but soon became disenchanted with the medium. I decided to go back to the the basics with pen and ink drawing. As a self-taught artist, I found this medium most fulfilling to the point where most of my work now is exclusively done in pen and ink, sprinkled occasionally with watercolor. Pen & Ink relies largely upon attention to value and texture as a substitute foe color. I find great pleasure by photographing landscapes, landmarks, and miscellaneous points of interest around Edenton, using the photos as a reference for my work.
