San Francisco Artist Georgianne Fastaia
I had the honor of showing my works with fantastic San Francisco artist Georgianne Fastaia.Her works - mostly figures and landscape or cityscape - have rich textures and great atmosphere. Her figures often boldly claim large portion of the canvases, giving them a sense of timeless monumentality, yet they are abruptly confronted by the edges of the canvases, making them somewhat vulnerable, therefore the complexity of the figures and the paintings palpable.... The artist's reception for the September exhibit at Artist-Xchange Gallery in San Francisco was great fun - lively music with DJ, nice wine and cheese and cookies, delicious coffee, interesting guests and many beautiful, intense, or whimsical works on display. [more]

My first stop on this month's busy First Thursday was Back to the Picture's SoMa Gallery:
Within the frame shop is a gallery space, where the current show "City Subject: San Francisco Urban Studies" will be on display until May 1.
Hilary Williams' brightly colored serigraphs (above and below) combined photographic elements with drawing:
Aquatints and lino-cuts by Sarah Newton (below) rounded out the portfolio of printmaking on display:

Among a goup show featured this month at the Artist-Xchange on 16th Street is the work of local artist Maureen Shields. Armed with the basic tools of acrylic paints and molded wooden canvases, Shields creates cute childlike images, cuddly creatures and playful school girls. In her paintings, happy little girls play games in their dream world with various imaginary creatures such as a baby deer and a half man, half seahorse.
