Jan Harrison's early bestial companions became a spiritual source of identity, as well as a guiding force in her life and work.

Her work involves empathy with the animal nature and the collective psyche, and is considered to be an influence in the investigation of the animal/human interface in art.

Harrison's paintings and sculpture have been shown in over one hundred solo and group exhibitions, including Animal.Anima.Animus, which opened in Finland, and traveled to Holland, Canada, and PS1 in New York. A chapter on her art is included in the book, In The Making: Creative Options for Contemporary Art, Linda Weintraub, d.a.p., Distributed Art Publishers, Inc., New York, NY.

The recipient of five fellowships, her work is in numerous private and museum collections. In addition to visual art, she sings and performs in a language, Animal Tongues.
