Statement

I'm an American painter who lives and works in Barcelona, Spain. For inspiration, I turn to my surroundings and daily life… People, places and things around me. I'm also interested in the art of the past and draw inspiration from so many other sources including poetry, music, cinema, etc.. It comes from all over the place, including the materials themselves. I get excited about the physical, tactile possibilities of (oil) paint, and the way painting or drawing someone or something is a way of possessing them and making them (or it) one’s own. I like this quote by Picasso where he said that “Painting is just another way of keeping a diary”. I really connect a lot with that statement because it’s sort of how I work.

Statement

For subject matter, I turn to my surroundings and daily life- people, places and things that have a strong impact on me personally visually and emotionally. I also draw inspiration from the art of the past, and so many other sources including poetry, music, cinema, and the materials themselves. I get excited about the physical, tactile possibilities of oil paint, and the way painting or drawing someone or something is a way of possessing them and making them (or it) one’s own.
