April Dawn Parker's abstract paintings are inspired by cartography, aerial photography and intracellular imagery. Each work is an abstracted map that shows a broad view of a scene overlaid with zooms, simultaneously showing multiple levels of magnification. Parker's formal technique embodies this tension of visual mash-ups, where she pairs warm colors with cool, lays in light against dark, and large shapes next to small to create her richly layered works. Her medium can vary from oil and collage, to gouache and pen.
