I don’t know if anyone else has seen the YouTube animation that explains the ten dimensions of the physical world, as predicted by the theoretical framework of M- or String theory. It’s quite confusing. However, one of the ideas it introduces is that at certain points the shift from one dimension to the next is achieved by folding that dimension through into the next (in similar fashion to how one would fold a piece of paper into a Mobius strip). Mapplethorpe for me, had always been someone whose work I respected by virtue of the quality of his prints, but always someone I felt indifferent to. It is much the same for certain countries that I have never had a desire to visit. It's not that they aren't interesting; just more that the sheer number of travel guides have pretty much had the place well-covered. Mapplethorpe is someone of whom there are many comprehensive travel guides but no reason for me to visit. At Allison... [more]

Of course nobody’s shocked anymore. Well…maybe a few of the oldest of Old Guard Palm Beachers. Worth Avenue, their Via Condotti-like turf has suffered some bone-chilling temperatures recently, and then there are those stock market reversals. If that’s not shock enough, along comes the Gavlak Gallery to heat things all the way up to sizzling with Think Pink, a new show curated by formidable New York collector, curator and art-party hostess, Beth Rudin DeWoody.
