Gustave Baumann lived in Santa Fe until his death in 1971. Many of Baumann’s most popular prints depict the Southwestern landscape and regional traditions of his beloved New Mexico.

Gustave Baumann (1881-1970) lived and worked in New Mexico for over fifty years. The West provided Baumann with subjects for the majority of his prints which became the basis of his enduring reputation as an American artist. Born in 1881 in Germany, Baumann immigrated to the US by the early 1900's. After a brief time in Chicago, Baumann moved to Brown County, Indiana in 1910. A long-term exhibition at the Museum of Art highlights Baumann's many talents, featuring some of his more obscure, yet beautiful, work. Gustave Baumann: A Santa Fe Legend runs indefinitely beginning September 18. 2009, in the Women’s Board Room.
