Statement

(transformation without transcendence)

If the work has an overall theme, perhaps it would be the indeterminacy of not necessarily knowing.

I don’t believe that meaning is inherent and I’m not searching for (Platonic) truths or essences. As such, I’m not trying to show existence as it really is (as if that could actually be done). I’m also not claiming to state how life ought to be. If anything, I'm putting forth various fictions that viewers may or may not find applicable to their experiences and/or interests.

I don't create in order to capture; I create to constantly shift.

With the pillows (1999-2003), I was interested in the unstable interplay of touch, tact, presence, and absence in relation to homoerotic intimacy via used male underwear sewn together and stuffed with fiber fill. I was also interested in playing with notions of use/functionality in a rejection of what I consider to be the false dualism of fine art and craft while also attempting to engage an object-ness that is not a reduction to the physical, but possibly an affirmation of the physical.

With the digital images (2004 and ongoing) I'm manipulating images dis-similar to architectural and urban spaces, bodies, objects etc. to play with notions of interior, exterior, surface, depth, perspective, framing, temporality, virtuality, proximity, voyeurism, intimacy... and perhaps to create what one could arguably call, in a nod to Lewis Carroll, portmanteau spaces.
