Thanks for your comment on my Nam series- and apologies for my late response- only picked up your comment today 11 April 2012 .. No I've not been to Nam .. and I guess that is the point of the series- as I was growing up in the fifties and sixties in the Uk I was exposed to the horrors of the Vietnam conflict but only through the media- experience by proxy ... and so it is only now, some 45 years later that I am able to overlay my first hand life experience and to truly begin to have some understanding of the real pain and suffering of those who experienced the war first hand ... That's a good question, I haven't even ask that mysel. When I started drawing and painting, a very long time ago, I painted landscapes, always hills and I like to feel that as I was applying the paint with my brush as I was walking or flying over those hills, these were very "sensitive" paintings.
With the portraits is very alike. Sometimes it is me, others is a daughter, a friend. It is like a music sheet that need to be interpreted, it it not about the person itself, on the contrary, it is about the feelings that a mouth or a gaze a hand make me feel.

btw. working with blood was an experience! trawling the butchers and meat markets like i'm Blade ~( a question asked at least 20 times) i don't think i will visit that direction again, i only have 1 cooler and i ended up trowing it out due to the smell and bacteria. it became a race to complete the paintings before the blood took over.
