Statement

Statement

As a child, I experienced materials such as bone and rusted wire within the context of narrative, I now work with similar materials in a human context using both implied references and spatial approximations usually with more of a structural emphesis. While I find a long and sometimes contentious tradition in art for working with the figure from “Venus” figures and pictographs to performance art, I also work with ideas or (non-representational) abstract forms--choosing materials that are project specific.  I balance the two approaches by starting with whichever materials seem the best fit for the idea or form and working toward the other if necessary.
