Breanna Elise Murphey
Born: Sacramento, CA
Lives in: Miami, FL
I create by combining discarded items, elements of color, and a twist of darkness. I view my pieces — installations, paintings, and sculptures — as recycled beauty, using paint, photographs, and random/found objects. The latter are especially important to my conceptual approach since I believe that all things have a life of their own; it's just a matter of rousing their souls. These mediums are extensions of myself — improvisational works to express my visions of fantasy, the macabre, disorder, and the subconscious. Every arrangement of items is symbolic, inviting the viewer to look into the message behind each piece. I then rely on the viewer’s imagination and deep-seated desires to see beyond the surface, relying on one’s need to see beauty in darkness.
