Joe Thompson

        I try to convert my thoughts into sculpture. At least, the thoughts I feel are important. This process starts with the objects and materials I run across. The direction I take with each piece is influenced heavily by my interest in philosophy & human nature. So, these are the ingredients floating around in my sub-conscious when inspiration occurs. My sculptures are all "one of a kind" and can be very sculptural or more assemblage depending on the piece and my intention. Through the years, I have learned many techniques that few artists know. My favorite has been learning to literally carve steel. This process I discovered through experimentation and lends itself well to the figurative pieces I create.
