As I travel around the world,I collect pictures and artefacts I find in stores and bazaars for most of them. They represent some sort of global kaleidoscopic temples, a world map of objects.I like the idea of re-create these artefacts, protuberances initially kitsch and turned them into miniatures of worlds. To manipulate them constitutes one of my means of expression.
All You Can Eat
The aquarium, a kitsch room decor object, becomes All you can eat, a slideshow of colourful possibilities. It is like these theme parks where one can travel all over the planet in a single and immobile trip.
In this case, the traditional Chinese scale-down garden (the Penjing) is placed into a jar pop culture.
Geographic and climatic ends are opposed around 360°. Both sketches contrast, forming a world of exuberant antagonisms, where the real and the unreal are unrestrictedly confused.
Then, fiction becomes a pretext to get out of a far too pragmatic reality.
The Grotto of Love
Born out of a visual delirium, The Grotto of Love is a massive meringue where set diamonds are lolled into expanded foam. It seeks to be the ideal lair of bizarre folly, when the preciosity of goldsmith wares become despicable and sculpture a catastrophe.
Miss Univers
Therefore, this thin line tightens between attraction and repulsion, when situations get out of control… so as to legitimate Miss Univers, the hairpiece of a queen of fluorescent beauty whose hair is puked into a burst of expanded foam, as a living being, a starving Godzilla about to awake…
And everything swells into sublime and disgust.
