I create my work with the elements of nature: wood, fire, water, and uncertainty. Working with these basic elements, acrylic paint and exploding gunpowder, I make modern, primitive, abstract, art.
My gunpowder and acrylic paintings are made by burning thin board or canvas with high speed fuses and gunpowder. There is a moment of tension and suspense - pure art - just before I light the fuse. The flame, energy, and inevitable explosion unite nature in a split second of beautiful form, color, and texture.
I have degrees in mathematics and economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a masters degree from Edgewood College. I owned a silk clothing business and, on my journeys to China, developed a profound understanding of Asian minimalist art, fuses, and gunpowder. I eventually sold my silk clothing business to pursue art full time in 2006.
I work in Madison, WI and Chicago, Il. Over the years, I have sold many paintings, some of which are on display in Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Madison, and Geneva.
