Thomas Akers is a contemporary American artist with a realistic painting style that has been described as, "Edward Hopper meets Norman Rockwell". He studied art and painting at American University, Washington, DC and has works in private and corporate collections in Europe and America. He resides in the Appalachian area of south-western Virginia and many of his paintings reference the lives of the people now living in that area. He is an artist member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg, Virginia and is represented by the Atlanta Art Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia and Studio Eleven in Lexington, Virginia.
