I make Bits.
Each individual Bit is 2” x 2” and unique, however depth, shape and materials vary. They magnetically adhere to large steel canvases, and by combining a large number of Bits together a collection emerges that is not intended to be static. My work is meant to be rearranged, therefore redefined. Constructed and deconstructed. This simple mounting system makes for infinitely variable compositions that take on a life force of their own as they migrate around the steel canvas manipulated by the hands of others. Life is not rigid, why should art be?
I am completely taken with the idea of the potentially infinite and am creating an art form that is capable of it. Within these parameters I have worked with a wide range of materials and treatments, and as such my BITS occupy a space that involves sculpture, painting, and photography that is new is the art world. Even though I work on distinct collections, ultimately I consider all of my BITS as one epic work of art with interchangeable parts where anything is possible.
