A Southern California native, Stephanie Inagaki received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Boston University's College of Fine Arts and her Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute. After studying abroad in Italy and living in major cities around the United States, she has returned to her roots to establish herself as a multifaceted artist in the Los Angeles area.
Artist Statement
Relying on the essential evocative qualities of bodily elements such as skin, bones, and hair to develop painstaking executions and fantastic elaborations, my charcoal drawings push the physical into a realm of psychological space that vacillates between existence and mortality, stability and fragility, and the abject and the sensual. In these corporeal re-imaginings, the body becomes the border space where existence meets the uncanny.
