Statement

Though traditionally trained, I am now primiarily a mixed artist in both paintings and sculpture. In the past few years I have added encaustic painting (wax with dammar varnish and oil paint for color) to my assortment of mediums.  This method of painting allows fragmented memories and depth of color to surface in layer after layer of each piece making it a collage of emotions.

All of my work is highly autobiographical, this intention in my work is probably the most of myself that I could possibly share with anyone.

Language became a conceptual anchor for me in graduate school and I have frequently made this element a part of my art practice.  Adding my writing to my art has made me feel more complete as an artist and it has affected my process in a positive manner. Through this, I discovered that language took on its deepest meaning for me at the moment of its appearance as an aesthetic image.

I have an MFA/Fine Art, an MBA/Business with a focus in Marketing, and multiple undergraduate degrees in Painting, Sculpture and Photography. Though my "main" job is about being an artist, I also teach in the graduate and undergraduate schools of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
