Iris Häussler is best known for her hyper-realistic narrative installations produced in various domestic locations including apartments, hotel rooms, and homes. Visitors explore the spaces in which the work and lives of Häussler’s fictitious characters are unfolded through interactions with non-verbal cues and detailed material evidence, in what Canadian philosopher Mark Kingwell has coined “haptic conceptual art”.
Recently, Häussler created a major intervention, "He Named Her Amber," in The Grange, a restored national historic house at the Art Gallery of Ontario, a two-year project that began in 2008. This fall, she participated in the 2010 Arctic expedition of Cape Farewell, the UK based organization that brings international artists and scientists and together to stimulate the production of art founded in scientific research. http://www.capefarewell.com/
The artist has received awards and grants including the Karl-Hofer Prize (Berlin), the Kunstfonds Fellowship (Bonn), the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts.
