Kate Beck was born in Bath, Maine in 1956.  She studied at the University of Maine at Orono (1975-1977), Bennington College (1978), Goddard College (1979), and Maine College of Art (1994-1996).  She lives and works on the coast of Maine at WhiteSpot Studio.

Her paintings and drawings result from a systematic starting point of materials and geometric shape, ultimately delineating an interchange between artist, place and viewer. Her muted color cadences and detailed surfaces are parallels to the nature of light, and her lifelong relationship with the sea.

Beck has been the focus of numerous articles and interviews, including: Essential Dialogue, In Search of Reductive Imagery, by Jack Craft, Clarendon, TX, 2012; Kate Beck and the Potential of Line, by Piet Augustijn, Gorcums Museum, The Netherlands, 2011; Frank Eerhardt: On Kate Beck, edited by Andrew Hewish, The Art Section, London, UK, 2011; Critical Lines, by Britta Konau, Maine Home + Design Magazine, 2011; Writings on Art: Kate Beck, by Fiona Robinson, London, UK, 2010; Drawing Lines: Kate Beck, by Brent Hallard, Tokyo, Japan, 2009.

She has exhibited and lectured within the United States and Europe, including The New Mexico Museum of Contemporary Art; The Ogunquit Museum of American Art; The Portland (Maine) Museum of Art; Center for Maine Contemporary Art; Bowdoin College; University of Pennsylvania; Harvard University; Tufts University; The University of Western Bohemia, Czech Republic; The Kosova Museum of Art; Gorcums Museum, The Netherlands and ParisCONCRET, Paris, France.

Beck is represented by Masters Projects, Inc, Brooklyn, NY and by ICON Contemporary Art, Brunswick, ME. Additionally, she maintains professional relationships with The Drawing Center, New York, NY; Kentler International Drawing Space, Brooklyn, NY; MINUSspace, Brooklyn, NY; ParisCONCRET, Paris, France; and the BAU Institute, New York, NY and Puglia, Italy.

A book of her recent works, Poëma, has been published by Peter Foolen Editions, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, July 2012.
