Laila Espinoza is a mixed-media artist combining fiber materials such as thread, yarn and fabric with painting. Her work can be interpreted as a story or a metaphor in a visual poem, expressing the varied aspects of the experience we call Life. Laila has been painting and exhibiting her work throughout Arizona, San Francisco, and the Bay Area for the last ten years. She teaches mixed-media art work-shops at elementary schools, community centers, and art events. Her studio is located in Berkeley where she also offers framing and restoration services.
In her own words "Painting or creating art is a neccesity for me. It is part of who I am. I paint what I feel, what I see, what I hear, and what I remember. Some people say my work is very personal and that is true, but I also see in it the collective...because when people look at my work, I have observed the expression on their faces. I have seen all ranges of expressions and reactions and that is when I know they feel what I feel. Through my paintings I conquer battles within myself, explore new worlds and make deep connections with people without exchanging a word"
