Statement

Moco was born in Currais Novos, RN - BRAZIL, on october 5, 1971. Very early in his life, he showed great command of Art, as seen in his funny portraits of his classmates, which he used to draw in his notebooks. As an adult, he discovered his passion for paintings, and his style during his visits to museums and art galleries in San Francisco. Today, living among the Vineyards of Sonoma, in wine country in California, he has been able to portray, in huge acrylic paintings, the everyday routine of American Families, a very interesting lifestyle, and a very consume-oriented too. Being, as he is, an admirer of beauty and harmony, Moco charmingly shares his feeling with us, reproducing them in scenes of everyday life, uniting the Americas. Another trait of his works refers to his past as a nomade, inherited through his father, who used to be a miner. Curiously although he is the son and grandson of schoolteachers, he didn't come up as a good student, but free from discipline that was expected from him, his artistic vein could run free and he became this inovative artist that he is today.

Married to his muse, Moco feels comfortable sharing and documenting both his dreams and scenes of everyday life, often using domestic settings, decorated by her differently at different seansons, changing the rooms, making them more inviting and inspiring, always attracting an endless crowd of friends. With his works all over his house, his guests wonder how paintings of people with such serious faces change the rooms the way they do, making them energized and happy.

Froms the Naifs by Rousseau to the Naive paintings of the brazilian Iaperi Araujo and Francisco Iran, characters with the idyllic expressions from the neoclassic movement appear in the expressionist sceneries of Matisse, reproduced in the living and vibrant colors of Pablo Picasso. Thus, Mocoh is unique, exposing himself in amelting pot of influences. He has been classified in several different genres, but his art is intriguing and defies classifications.

Although Moco is not an impressionist, he makes an impression, by showing his expressionist style, enxhanting us with his serious faced characters in the naivet of his Paintings, hipnotizing us with his colors and proposing a world which is surreal, but feasible.

Welcome to the world of Moco!
