Statement

Wil Murray was born in Canada in 1978; he studied painting at the Alberta College of Art and Design.

He has exhibited extensively in North America, including  MOCCA(Toronto), The National Gallery of Canada(Ottawa)The Power Plant(Toronto), Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal(Montréal). In 2008 he exhibited GRREEDEN(with Justin Evans) and curated the exhibition Painting: Thick & Thin with Wayne Baerwaldt for the Sled Island Festival in Calgary. He received an honourable mention in the prestigious 2008 RBC Painting Competition for his painting, Sexe Maniac Maniac Maniac Maniac Maniac. He was most recently chosen by Amir Fattal for the Atelier project at The Funkhaus, Berlin.

Murray also played in several notoriously loud and short-spoken experimental bands, including The American Deathfuckers and Black Black.

He currently lives and works in Berlin.

Wil Murray, wurde 1978 in Kanada geboren.

Er studierte Malerei am „Alberta College of Art & Design“.

Im Rahmen vielzähliger Ausstellungen in Nordamerika konnte er seine Arbeiten u.A. bereits im „MOCCA“ (Toronto), „The National Gallery of Canada“ (Ottawa), „The Power Plant“ (Toronto), und im „Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal“ (Montréal) präsentieren.

Für das Sled Island Festival in Calgary leitete er 2008 gemeinsam mit Justin Evans die Ausstellung „GRREEDEN“ und kuratierte mit Wayne Baerwaldt die Ausstellung „Painting:Thick&Thin“.

In der „RBC Painting Competition 2008“ belegte Wil Murray mit seinem Werk „Sexe Maniac Maniac Maniac Maniac Maniac“ den zweiten Platz und erhielt von den Wettbewerbs-Juroren hierfür die Ehrenauszeichnung.

Erst kürzlich wurde er von Amir Fattal eingeladen an dem Atelier-Projekt im Funkhaus Berlin teilzunehmen.

Des Weiteren war Murray Mitglied diverser notorisch lauter und eher kurzlebiger Experimental Bands wie „The American Deathfuckers“ und „BlackBlack“.

Zur Zeit lebt und arbeitet er abwechselnd in Montreal und Berlin
