Influences
These artists lived under harsh conditions, often facing official persecution. Yet they each went their own way, siding with no-one — neither the party bigwigs nor the politicised underground. Their nonconformism was total in that it applied not only to their attitude to Soviet ideology but also to all attempts at influencing their work. After the perestroika, they did not try to accommodate themselves to the conditions of the art market but remained true to their own creative way.
