Statement
Gary studied painting & drawing at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Il, USA and apprenticed as a painter under the late, great Ed Paschke and, a classmate of Paschke’s (School of the Art Institute of Chicago, class of ’57), “Bumble-Bee” Bob Novak. Both Paschke & Novak studied @ SAIC under Isabelle MacKinnon, a student of Hans Hoffman. Gary earned a Diplome de Francaise from the Sorbonne, Universite’ de Paris , and a tattoo apprenticeship under Electric Art Tattoos' owner, Ernie Gonzales. Gary is/has been represented by, or/and exhibited at; the Judy A Saslow Gallery in Chicago, Il, eklektikos Gallery in Washington DC, The Henry Boxer Gallery in England, Packer Schopf Gallery in Chicago, Galerie L'Art de Rein, Paris, France, Jack Olson Gallery @ Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois, L'Art Noir Gallery in New Orleans, La., Gallery Mornea in Evanston, Il, as well as exhibiting with Ed Paschke at the World Tattoo Gallery in Chicago, Il, with Andy Warhol at the Franklin Roosevelt Hotel in LA, California, with Leon Golub at the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Art in Chicago, Il & his work with Brenda Venus at the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago, Il., and the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur, California. Gary has been featured on PBS's Artbeat twice and has been interveiwed, or written about, in numerous magazines, newspapers and TV shows including the Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Sun Times, Gallery Magazine, Current Affair, Danny Bonaduce Show and numerous others.
