Leon Sarantos

Artist Statement

I have often combined art, architecture and travel by painting local scenes and buildings.  My landscapes include paintings from scenes I encountered during a trip to Mexico, as well as a winter landscape inspired by skiing in the Chicago forest preserves, Winter Woods. I also enjoy painting cityscapes, still lifes, portraits and abstracts.  My recent cityscapes draw on my experiences, walking through the University of Chicago campus, picnicking at Botany Pond, and having a hot cup of coffee at the C-Shop on a winter's day.

B. Architecture, University of Michigan, College of Arts and Architecture, 1957 - 1963
Studies included drawing, composition, rendering and water color painting.
