Nichole Camarillo is a California based artist of Mexican descent. She spent most of her childhood moving up and down the coast of California. The artist has more recently re-rooted herself in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she was born. Being that available resources were almost non-existent growing up, Nichole's media of choice was often based on whatever objects and materials she could find. She became quite fond of pencil and charcoal during these years. The self-taught artist looks back at those 'black and white' times as a great fundamental learning experience. Advancing to color, it was well into her late teenage years before Nichole had the luxury of picking up a paintbrush. This newfound source of creative expression became her main focus and release. Nichole began to shine light on areas of her life that she, until then, kept hidden from public view. Poverty, abuse, family, culture, relationships, religion, sex, emotions, addictions, loves and losses all weighed heavily as inspiration for Nichole's paintings. Now, at 25 years of age, Nichole has experienced more devastation in her life than most might experience in five lifetimes. Once ashamed and protective of what her past has carried, Nichole is now proud to illuminate these dark areas through her work. She is proud to have made it through them, to have learned and to have grown so much.
"My hands and brushes take pride in telling stories of the most beautifully tragic pieces of life this soul has known." - Nichole Camarillo
Nichole Camarillo continues to create beautiful, stimulating, and often intense imagery. The artist, as well as her art, are unceasingly evolving with every breath and every brushstroke. Although paint continues to be Nichole's main source of creative expression, she is progressively extending her reach into photography, video, writing, and design. Although there are currently no means of viewing her large body of work in its entirety, many of Nichole Camarillo's paintings are available through her website. NicholeCamarillo.com
