Statement

My work depicts places and narratives, sometimes real and at other times invented.  I make objects and sculptures as well as drawings, prints and collages that are at times flagrantly melancholic and wistful and which celebrate pastiche.

Much of my work retains indications of materiality and means, on occasion alluding to the obsessiveness of the hobbyist.  I enjoy the contradictions and challenges of using impermanent mediums such as cardboard, glue or iced gingerbread to make intricate works using long-drawn-out processes.

Elements of my work entails identifying ambiguous networks and relationships which often involves compulsive and protracted investigation and classification.  In recent projects I have engaged with redundant or overlooked sites, objects and archives. My scale-models, depictions and proposals have embraced the paradox and nostalgia of the replica as visitor attraction.

Finished works are often shown in ways that emphasise their ordinariness while at the same time inviting closer inspection to reveal layers of potential interpretation.  I frequently present works in the form of a publication or leaflet, made as the culmination of an idea or the documentation of a project.
