Otis College of Art and Design, 2011

pop-art, surrealism, abstraction

I am currently a Fine Arts major at Otis College of Art and Design

All my life I have been drawn to Art, it is something I’ve been involve in most of my life. After taking a year and a half off after high school I decided it was time for me to go to Art College. I got accepted to Otis College of Art and Design in 2007 which has opened my eyes to a whole other side of art, but the turning point for me as a artist was when I traveled to Paris in spring for a class. It was 28 other artist my self and 3-Art Historian from my college, it was like nothing I have ever experienced in my life. It was a life changing to see works of art from Academic Art, Post-impressionism, Cubism and so many other form of art. Living in California my whole life has influenced my art, but is never really my subject matter. I am tremendously influenced from almost all artists and things around me, from Jackson Pollock, Picasso and Gustave Moreau to comic books, politics, graffiti art and local artist. The thing I love about art is the freeness of it, a lot of which is reflected in my work. When I am creating my work half of it is pre prepared and the other half is spontaneous. That’s the one thing I always try and infiltrate in my work, sometimes I don’t want to have it all planned out, a lot of the time I want to just go for it. I will have paintings that start one way and by the time I am done it looks nothing like the original idea. Experimentation is a big part of my work as well, painting and drawing on different surfaces and playing with different techniques, but at the same time keeping a sense of my personality. My work is fusions of Political and Social issues, Pop Art, Graffiti, Abstraction and sometimes anything I feel like. As an artist I think it is important to always try new things and just grow.
