This work is part of a series of photographs I took in and around the home town of my Grandmother in Crystal Brook, South Australia.  I called this the 'Bette' series.

I used the stories told by my Grandmother 'Bette' and her sister as a basis for this work, revisiting locations she grew up in.  I tried to imagine a young woman coming of age in a remote, rural township - dreaming and yearning for excitement of distant places.  Perhaps being photographed by her young lover.

Having been born in Crystal Brook myself, I wanted to rediscover my place of origin, and also reconnect with the spirit of my grandmother who I was very close to.

My intention was also to celebrate the beauty of an often dry and harsh part of Australia, where golden paddocks stretch into the horizon during the summer, and water is a precious resource and haven.
