Statement

Hu Hui was born in Anhui Province with an artist’s appreciative eye for beautiful scenery - his life was automatically immersed in the art culture of Huangshan, the home of China’s traditional landscape painting technique.

He has traveled throughout China, painting and searching for those special places to replicate in his own special style of ink and watercolour.  He paints on rice paper and silk, using bright colours to reproduce the times of the year, strong brush strokes to show the tones of the landscape and the whites to highlight the ‘horse head gable’ houses of the villages which usually appear in his works.

At 18, he joined the PLA, working in the cultural section, painting and producing propaganda.  After 4 years in the army he went to the northern city of Jilin where he studied fine art at the Tonghua Teachers College.

His paintings all show his deep sense of feeling for the countryside.  A unique feature of his work, are the flight of ducks that appear in most of his paintings – these go unrecognized by many, as they have never been in the wild and experienced (or heard) these beautiful birds flying.

His paintings are collected by ChangAn Folk Custom Museum, Anbu Peony Garden in Tokyo and in private collection locally and overseas.

Hu Hui is an Asia Fine Art gallery artist.
