What am I wanting to cause to Happen...
As an artist, Photographer/Abstract Painter, I seem to have very different approaches to the
end result of my work(s). One might observe the two being very extreme examples of creative
expression. I do admit the freeform environment associated with Abstract Expressionism attracts my
attention, and has since first seeing the work of artists from the “New York School in the early '60s”.
For me their abandonment of conventional ideas about, “what art should be and look like” clearly was
exciting and to say the least inspiring enough for me to choose to join the fray. Working at the County
Art Museum in L.A. (LACMA) was my springboard, thus propelling me into Hollywood Art Centre
School for two years, later to Santa Monica City College pursuing skills in how to paint, “or throw
paint against the canvas”.
Photography, on the other hand has come into my life strictly for purposes of clarifying the
the meanings learned in Art School, though sorely missed as a painter, more times than not. I use all
of the elements composition, perspective, shadow, shading, line, colours, texture, design, and countless
more in my “Styll Lyfe” and other camera work. Lighting being the most elegant and often illusive
ingredient to manage.
Your seeing sides of my complicated way of seeing life's values through the splashes of my
gut driven paint drippings and fine tuned painterly concepts about chasing the light fantastic. You be
the critic, analyst, collector you want to be and I'll continue to do as I do. Hope what you see says
something about both of us.
