Sofia Spirtova is a self-taught artist originally from Tashkent and lived in Auckland since 1995. As an artist she was mostly inspired by impressionists, especially by Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gough.
She always says that she has two brains: one is here in real life and another one is in her mind, so in real life she will get a spark of inspiration from something physical like nature and in her mind it’s a moment when the image she sees in something reflects her current thought.
At some point Sofia Spirtova started designing jewellery, so both painting and jewellery making supplement each other in her artistic mind.
For 3 years Sofia Spirtova has been exhibiting throughout New Zealand in group exhibitions and now she moved to Perth and already her paintings are all over the WA.
On 14 of September she won Commended Prize at the Shark Bay Art Awards 2013 for the painting "Postcard from Shark Bay"
