Statement

Chantal Powell creates seductive sculptural objects that cross the boundary between reality and imagination.

Responding to objects and materials as her starting point, she seeks to understand and manipulate the inherent vocabulary of these chosen materials. Using this visual language she plays with the notion that we are capable of believing in things that have been proven to be false.

"Powell’s work catches us between the theatric and the intimate”

Chantal Powell lives and works in Southampton, Hampshire. A PhD focusing on the psychology of human relationships informs her work as an artist. Powell's work has been featured on the cover of a-n magazine and been loaned for display in London's Saatchi & Saatchi building. She has been exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, most notably at the 53rd and 54th Venice Biennales.
