Statement of a Journey
Patricia Walsh
- LONG AGO while visiting museums in Europe, I discovered the underlying beauty and clarity of forms found in great paintings - and the not-so-great forms in lesser ones. My spiritual quest through the years has been to find these forms in my own voice
- ATTEMPTS AT ABSTRACTION in the early years were too much like what other artists had done. I turned to observable figures, landscapes, corners of rooms, windows anything that I could manipulate, arrange and color for my own needs.
- THERE WAS MORE I wanted to do with color and depth of field than images would allow. I started working with broken color and made field paintings with contrasting edges. These became too easy and I stopped working.
- I STOPPED. I started again, slowly experimenting with "found" forms and colors to make the body of work I am now engaged in.
- I HAVE DONE woodcuts, drawings, watercolors, sculpture and design work. Oil paint is for me, the only medium that allows discovery and change on the piece as it progresses towards - and one hopes gets to - that "ah hah" moment when one’s inner life is reflected with richness and truth.
