I feel my way into things and the feeling is not separate from the things, from my experience of them.
Some of the recent work begins with a phrase from my writings, scrawled in calligraphic line with charcoal onto the surface as a point of departure. The process of painting catalogs change, unearths and synthesizes my experiences, memories and ideas into a new whole that is now in the real world. I begin in one place and finish in another.
An intuitive use of color to express emotion, combined with the perceptual effects of light, creates an environment that blurs boundaries between the landscape, the body and the "known" world.
