Statement

Shaumyika Sharma is a Singapore-based artist, designer and architect (RIBA, ARB UK). She has worked and studied in the field of architecture and art across four continents for 17 years. She has taught at both The Cooper Union and NYU and her freelance work encompasses art and design ranging in scale from environments to stationery.

Her work takes cues from architectural representation, leading from architectural concepts into pure abstraction. Characterized by the use of bold color and intense black and white, her work includes photography, collage, mixed-media, drawing, painting, model-making, sculpture and film.

She holds a Master’s (M.S. Advanced Architectural Design) from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Western Australia. Her work (photography) was selected for the public art exhibition ‘Artbridge: In Plain Site’ and can be seen at London Terrace Gardens. She participated in the High Line Open Studios 2010 and 2011 and her work has been exhibited at the Design Cinema WORKS ’08 Exhibition in Istanbul (film), Artists’ Space, Soho (photography) and Zieher Smith, Chelsea (mixed media) amongst others. Her achievements have included: nomination for the Cameron Chisholm Nicol Prize for Best Graduating Portfolio, critical acclaim for her costume design for the Fringe Festival NY play, ‘The Books, and positive reviews for architectural work on a number of blogs.
