Mark Charles Rooney has been a practicing artist and arts educator for over 25 years. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Temple University , Philadelphia, Pa. and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD. He also spent a semester studying painting and art history in Rome, Italy in 1980. He has been a Professor of Fine Art at many colleges and universities including the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC and Penn State University in Hazleton, Pa. In additiion, he has taught art to children, teenagers, the elderly, including people with dementia, and to individuals and groups in workshops and classes in his studio.
He contiues to produce and exhibit his own work in galleries and art spaces in the United States and abroad. Galleries in Washington, DC that have exhibited Mr. Rooney's work include; The Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Phillips Collection, Anton Gallery, Washington Project for the Arts, District Fine Arts, Signal 66 and many others. In addition, he had a two-person exhibit in New Delhi, India in 1998 and has also exhibited his paintings in Munich, Germany and Bejing, China. Nationally he has been in shows in Philadelphia, Pa., Baltimore, Md., Chicago, Ill., and Richmond, Va. Recent exhibits include shows at Studio 5404 in Long Island and New Century Artists, Inc., and Asian Fusion gallery, both in New York City.
He currently maintains a studio in Hazleton, Pa. and teaches Fine Art at Penn State University.
