The Writer’s Vision
The Vision is a workshop for writers and photographers who want to develop their artistic vision by experiencing the wonder of sacred places and the luminous light of October in the remote desert landscapes of Abiquiu, New Mexico. Participants will explore mountains and canyons where silence, serenity, and the power of the land will open up your mind and expand your inner vision as an artist—yielding a new vocabulary in expression, words and images.
This workshop combines writing and photography to achieve a unified creative end, and it is open to either writers or photographers seeking a breakthrough. Using the magnificent natural landscapes of Ghost Ranch and the Piedra Lumbre valley, so beloved of Georgia O’Keeffe, individuals will participate in a series of mind-bending writing and photography exercises designed to help them break down their assumptions, overcome their limitations and bring their artistic vision to a new level.
After the first few days of exercises, participants will use what they have learned to focus on a single writing and photography project, combining words and images into a unified whole. The writing part could be a poem, a short story, a series of haiku images, an essay or even the chapter of a novel, enriched and informed by photographic imagery.
