By embellishing pre -Columbian imagery with contemporary and cosmic elements, I strive to embody the intersection of history, in all its depth and beauty, with the contexts of this era. I ground my work in Mayan iconography, using richly textured backgrounds and a chromatically satisfying palette of complimentary colors to draw viewers into the world of the painting. My study of the intuitive knowledge and mythical thinking left by ancient artists has revealed a legacy of incalculable value that I now share as a member of the Los Angeles community and beyond. With my art, I reveal our history. Only with the study and the teaching of our cultural past, our ancestry, is it possible to accept the strength and spiritual capacities of humanity in the present and future. I truly believe my part in this, my art, is just a small step in the larger scheme of accepting our past and that this will allow incredible visions of the future and leave our own testimony of immeasurable value in the understanding of humanity; just another part of in the ongoing process of evolution. More recently, I have been utilizing hieroglyphics, each figure depicted in my portraits—whether a deity, a warrior, or a medicine man—has a story to share that our generation should listen to. We are all one, we are all part of an evolving cycle, and the goal is that humanity needs to reach an elevated state of being, a new dimension, a better dimension.
