Alejandra Villasmil is a Venezuelan artist who lives and works in Santiago de Chile. She has a BA in Media Studies from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (1994, Caracas, Venezuela) and studied Fine Arts at Hunter College (CUNY), The Art Students League of New York, and the School of Visual Arts (NY) between 1998 and 2004. In 2005, she was recipient of a fellowship from Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art (Newark, NJ). Her work has been included in group exhibitions at El Museo del Barrio (NY), Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Galería Nacional del Museo de los Niños (San José, Costa Rica), Museo de Arte Moderno de la República Dominicana, Queens Museum of Art (Queens, NY), Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (California), Lehman College Art Gallery (Bronx, NY), Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art (Newark, NJ), City Without Walls (Newark, NJ), apexart (NY), Haim Chanin Fine Arts (NY), Ethan Cohen Fine Arts (NY), Roebling Hall (Brooklyn, NY), The Lab Gallery (NY), Rush Arts Gallery (NY), Werketage (Berlin, Germany), and Ever Harvest Art Center (Taipei, Taiwan). Two person exhibitions include Praxis Gallery (Miami, FL), Galería Galou (Brooklyn, NY), and Repetti Gallery (Long Island City, Queens, NY). Her work has been reviewed by The New York Times and The Brooklyn Rail, among other US publications. Her portfolio is included in the Drawing Center Viewing Program (NY). Her work is in private collections in New York, Miami, Chile, Suiza and Hong Kong.
