My whole life has been surrounded by the arts and nature. These two serve as the driving forces behind my works. Living where naturally occurring beauty is abundant has cultured an affinity for its forms and features.
As a child, I was captivated by the lush undulating coastline of California. Once again, in recent times, I find myself at the water’s edge, appreciating the sandy shores, and natural beauty of the East Coast. Whether they are moving, living, simple or complex, it is incredible how the processes of nature can create such masterpieces, and this is at the core of my inspiration.
I work with India & Sumi Inks on photography paper, taking inspiration from the great Suminagashi masters of the Far East, applying ancient technique to modern backdrops. Both the history and results are fortuitous and mystical.
Individual pieces typically go unnamed. This is intentional, for it invokes unbiased feeling and emotion which is authentic to each viewer. Hopefully, they also appreciate the simplicity and naturality of the works as they relive the way inks have mingled while they drift across paper, eventually settling in permanence.
