Western Exhibitions’ packed show “Heads on Poles” achieves almost inadvertently what most biennials regularly fail to do: gather together artists and artworks that can be seen as representing common artistic impulses under an interesting theme. Visceral and earthy, yet paradoxically sublime and, at times, tongue-in-cheek, the current Bob Jones show at 65GRAND is a mixed bag of tricks. Two group shows that have recently opened focus on abstract painting by contemporary artists.
